LYNNWOOD, Wash. – A Lynnwood family that brought a barbecue grill into their apartment to keep warm poisoned themselves with carbon monoxide.

Lynnwood Police say Fire and Aid units were called to the 5900 block of 204th St. SW early Sunday after a 3-year-old boy woke up making noises and struggling to breathe.

The toddler and his parents were transported to Virginia Mason Hospital and were treated in the hyperbaric chamber after suffering from many signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. They were treated and released later Sunday afternoon.

Two other adults in the same unit and four people in an above apartment unit were also taken to the hospital for evaluation and were released soon after.

Police say it’s not clear why the family was using the grill for heat. There is a language barrier and police are still investigating.

Police warn that you should never use a generator, grill, camp stove or other gasoline, propane, natural gas or charcoal-burning devices inside a home, garage, basement, crawlspace or any partially enclosed area. Locate unit away from doors, windows and vents that could allow carbon monoxide to come indoors.

I bet the family had not a clue that to bring in the grill to keep warm. May the toddler recover. And the family get the help they need .
