PUYALLUP, Wash. – Washington’s unemployment rate is now at 9.2 percent. We know WorkSource Washington has resources to help job seekers. But did you know they have free help for employers struggling to dig through a mountain of resumes?
Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people camp out for a select few jobs.
It’s a frustrating situation for job-seekers.
And it can be pretty overwhelming for employers too.
The new highline YMCA had to hire an entire staff and hundreds of applicants applied.
“I would estimate that it would have taken two or three of my full-time staff full-time for three weeks to go through the initial screening process,” said Claudia Tanis of YMCA of Greater Seattle.

WorkSource screens candidates and hands the employer a manageable list of the best and the brightest to interview.
That’s where Worksource Washington is stepping in.
“We kind of like to think of ourselves as another branch of an employer’s human resource department,” said Dot Fallihee of WorkSource King County.
They screen the candidates and hand the employer a manageable list of the best and the brightest to interview.
“The benefit that Worksource gets is that we get the people who need jobs and hired and off the rolls of unemployment,” said James Blatz of WorkSource.
All while taking pressure off employers.
“It was fantastic for us. They saved us countless staff hours,” said Tanis.
We spoke with people from another small business who used Worksource to fill a position.
“They pre-screened, interviewed, and qualified all of the applicants. WorkSource provides an invaluable service to small business owners like myself,” said Dr. Wendy Schauer, D.C., Community Chiropractic, P.S. of Olympia.
Worksource wants to get the word out to because they say not enough employers know about these services.
The ultimate goal is to get more job postings listed through Worksource so they can get more people back to work.
