Original Article: Storm to bring snow to Cascade foothills

SEATTLE — A cold front moving through Western Washington Friday is bringing wind, rain and up to 4-to-6 inches of snow to the Olympics and Cascades, say forecasters.

“It’s very wet out this morning and blustery as well,” said KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott. “It’s a pretty good storm moving through.”

National Weather Service forecasters say the snow level will fall to 1,000 feet Friday night, bringing the chance of snow to the Cascade foothills. Marriott predicts snow levels to drop on Saturday, not Friday.

“As colder air surges inland tomorrow afternoon, the snow level is likely to drop to about 1,000 feet, especially during the afternoon to early evening hours over the Cascade foothills,” said Marriott. “I don’t think there’s any chance, though, of snow plows pushing any snow around Seattle any time in the immediate future.”

Marriots says there’s even a chance of mixed rain and snow or wet snow over inland hills 500 to 1,000 feet in heavier showers, especially in eastern King, Snohomish and possibly Pierce counties. That seems most likely during the early to mid evening hours.

Marriott predicts winds on Friday will reach 20-40 mph from Everett to the north and west, and 10-25 mph south and west of Everett. For Friday, he expects temperature lows in the mid 30’s to near 40 and highs in the low to mid 40’s. After 8 a.m. Friday, widespread rain should turn to more scattered showers.

“Saturday looks dry in the morning but we could see a few showers in the afternoon in Western Washington,” said Marriott. Showers will continue on Sunday with highs back into the 50s, then mostly breezy, rainy weather into next week in Western Washington.

In Eastern Washington, Saturday should be partly sunny and cool then a chance or rain and snow showers into next week.
